Young Hearts Cry Michael Davenport is a young man who retired from the European theater of World War II and dreamed of becoming a poet and playwright. He lived for his art and didn't want to touch his wife's money, but he still wrote for a business magazine to support his love of poetry. Lucy, a very rich wife, never knew what she wanted, except that everyone else seemed happier than she was. As time went on, the couple's anxiety grew as they watched others achieve success while they remained anonymous. Their happy lives are consumed by fornication and isolation, and the monotony they thought they had escaped lingers like a nightmare. In this novel, Yates once again chose the broken American dream, which he is best at, as its theme, crushing the innocence of the dream with the heavy hammer of reality, bringing incomparable dull pain, and making people feel the sentimental and personal of The Times
