大卫·詹姆斯（David James，1966—），现为华威大学哲学系助理教授，著有《德国古典唯心主义中的财产及其形式》（2023）、《实践必然性、自由与历史：从霍布斯到马克思》（2021）、《费希特的共和国：观念论、历史与民族主义》（2015）与《费希特的社会与政治哲学：财产与美德》（2011），并编有关于黑格尔《法哲学原理》以及费希特的读本。
吴珊珊，浙江大学人文学院哲学博士，英国华威大学（University of Warwick）联合培养博士。现就职于华北科技学院。主要研究方向为卢梭哲学、马克思主义哲学。
Introduction to Rousseau and the Theory of German Ideas
The ideological connection between Rousseau and German idealism has not been forgotten, but perhaps because of various reasons, people lack the real restoration and comprehensive attention to this ideological scene.
David James re-examines this theme with the help of three core concepts: freedom, dependence and necessity, and constructs a holistic thought dialogue. Taking Rousseau as the anchor point, he reviewed Kant's philosophy of history, Fichte's theory of rights and property and Hegel's compromise synthesis plan, and revealed the problems in the three plans successively, and then argued that the three (according to their positions in the history of thought) continued the problem of will and necessity proposed by Rousseau in their different ways. Yet none of them really responded to Rousseau's challenge. It can be said that this book examines Rousseau's questions and the "failed attempts" of Kant, Fichte, Hegel, including his own - and what new foundations of knowledge can be obtained by means of this consolidation and reflection. This book reappraises the value of Rousseau's ideas and brings a fresh perspective and the possibility of deeper understanding to the history of Western philosophy in the 18th and 19th centuries.

David James (1966 -), Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick, is the author of Property and Its Forms in Classical German Idealism (2023), Practical Necessity, Freedom, and History: From Hobbes to Marx (2021), and Fichte's Republic: Ideology, History, and Nationalism (2015) and Fichte's Social and Political Philosophy: Property and Virtue (2011), with compilations of readings on Hegel's Principles of Philosophy of Right and Fichte.
Shanshan Wu, Ph.D., School of Humanities, Zhejiang University, co-trained by the University of Warwick. He is currently working in North China Institute of Science and Technology. His main research interests are Rousseau's philosophy and Marxist philosophy.
