(Daphne du Maurier)

About the author
By Daphne du Maurier
He is a member of the Royal Society of Literature, winner of the Edgar Allan POE Lifetime Master Award, the National Book Award and the Order of the British Empire. Critics have called her one of the most fascinating and neglected female writers of the 20th century.
Du Maurier, who wrote 17 novels and dozens of other literary works in his lifetime, is credited with breaking the line between popular fiction and pure literature. The Butterfly Dream, which she wrote in 1938, was a blockbuster, a first for dark love mystery novels, and was remade by Hitchcock into a film of the same name, which won the Best Picture Award at the 13th Academy Awards.
Born in London into an artistic family, Du Maurier grew up steeped in literature and theatre. Her father had three daughters, and she wished she was a son to fulfill his expectations. Strong gender repression and conflict run through her entire life and literary works. As a sister to Du Maurier's masterpiece The Butterfly Dream, The Dream of Floating Life tells a hot, sentimental and suspenseful story from a male perspective against the background of Cornwall's local customs, and has been described by critics as "one of the best and most valuable works of our time".
