Why are the heroes in The Three Kingdoms worshipped by people as the gods of commerce? From historical facts to stories, and then to objects of belief, this book attempts to analyze the changing process of Guan Yu's image as a new attempt to study the history of Chinese thought. There are Guan Di temples in Chinatowns all over the world, and Guan Yu is believed and worshipped by the Chinese as the god of commerce. Why did the generals in The Three Kingdoms become such objects of belief?
