In Mexico City, 1950, Noemi enjoys parties, games, and flirting with handsome heirs to large corporations.
When her cousin Katerina sends a telegram saying that her new husband tried to poison her, Noemi begins to investigate her cousin's strange claims.
Traveling through the Mexican countryside, Noamy arrives in the Highlands, a Victorian-style estate that overlooks a town once famous for its silver mines.
The rest of the silver belonged to Katerina's husband's family, the Durres, and some silver jewelry. The Durr family did not welcome Noemi, and she gradually discovered that her cousin was becoming neurotic - she claimed that the walls were talking to her and that her husband was trying to poison her.
Noemi's investigation inadvertently uncovers the dark secrets surrounding the Durr family and their silver mine. The more Noemi tries to unravel the mystery, the more she falls into the same dark trap as Katerina.
Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a Mexican-Canadian writer whose works are set in Mexico, such as "The God of Jade Shadows", "Mexican Gothic" and "Velvet Night", reflect the unique history and culture of Mexico. Mexican Gothic won the 2021 British Fantasy Award, the Locus Award for Best Gothic Novel, and the Aurora Award for Best Novel in Canada. She edited the anthology She Walks in the Shadows (Daughters of Cthulhu), which won the World Fantasy Award.
