陶渊明归隐之前曾断断续续地当了多年小官，归隐之后也只是一位地方名流、社会贤达，文坛上并没有太高的地位，他的诗风不符合当时的主流、时尚。但是后来地位越来越高，从“隐逸诗人之宗”一变而为东晋之忠臣和遗民，一位传统政治道德的标兵。
本书在两卷十二章的篇幅里，以诗文补史，讲述陶渊明反复出仕、反复归隐的人生轨迹，分析其思想的庞杂性、委运任化的人生哲学，以期还原出“一个和旧说不同的人物”，一个生活在人间的切近历史真实的陶渊明。只有把陶渊明请下神坛，而我们自己则站起来平视这位大诗人，才能看清他的优异之处，才能真正读得懂他——热爱生活，视死如归。
作者简介
顾农，1944年生，江苏泰州人。1966年毕业于北京大学中文系文学专业，后为扬州大学文学院教授，一度兼任中文系主任，现已退休。多年来，主要致力于三国两晋南北朝时期的文学史及鲁迅研究，著述颇多，出版有《魏晋文章新探》（1999）、《建安文学史》（2000）、《听箫楼五记》（2004）、《千家诗注评》（2006）、《文选论丛》（2007）、《四望亭文史随笔》（2012）、《从孔融到陶渊明——汉末三国两晋文学史论衡》（2013）、《与鲁迅有关》（2014）、《谈非常谈》（2016）、《诗人鲁迅》（2020）、《己亥随笔》（2021）、《中国中古文学史》（2022）等。

Before his retirement, Tao Yuanming had been a minor official intermittently for many years, and after his retirement, he was only a local celebrity and social sage, and did not have a high status in the literary world. His poetic style did not conform to the mainstream and fashion at that time. But later, his status became higher and higher, and he changed from the "reclusive poet's father" to the loyal minister and the remnant of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and a model of traditional political morality.
In two volumes and twelve chapters, this book uses poetry and prose to supplement history, narrates Tao Yuanming's life track of repeated official service and repeated retreat, analyzes the complexity of his thoughts and his philosophy of life, in order to restore "a character different from the old saying", a Tao Yuanming living in the world close to the historical reality. Only by inviting Tao Yuanming down from the altar, and ourselves standing up to look at this great poet, can we see his excellence, can we really understand him - love life, death.
About the author
Gu Nong was born in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province in 1944. He graduated from the Department of Chinese Literature of Peking University in 1966, and later became a professor of the School of Literature of Yangzhou University, and once served as the head of the Department of Chinese Literature. Over the years, he has mainly devoted himself to the literary history of The Three Kingdoms, the Jin, the Southern and Northern Dynasties and Lu Xun's research, and has written a lot.
