十九岁的男孩谢晔从云南到上海，寻找生下他后即抛开家庭回到上海的生母。谢晔在一个偶然的机会看到复旦大学退休教授苏怀殊的家庭相册，里面有苏怀殊少女时代在西南联大求学时的照片。与她合影的年轻人，竟是谢家最传奇的男人，他称作“小爷爷”的谢德。出于好奇，谢晔设法探寻小爷爷的过往，也因此认识了苏怀殊的外孙女安玥。两个年轻人一同踏上寻旧之旅，最终将他们引入始料未及的境地。
小说跨越西南联大、知青们的景洪农场、千禧年之前的上海。谢晔一心探究的“母亲为何抛弃家庭”这一问题的答案，比他所预想的更残酷。
作者简介
默音，作家、翻译家。1980年代生于云南，后迁居上海。写科幻小说出道，近年来创作多混合了现实与奇幻，已出版小说《月光花》《人字旁》《姨婆的春夏秋冬》，其中《姨婆的春夏秋冬》获上海作协2015年度优秀长篇。另翻译有《摩登时代》《真幌站前多田便利屋》《赤朽叶家的传说》《京都人生》《冰点》等多部日本小说和非虚构作品，并长期撰写日本文学、文化相关文章，主持“默音吃酒去”公号。《甲马》是她以八年时间创作的长篇小说。

Xie Ye, a 19-year-old boy, traveled from Yunnan to Shanghai in search of his birth mother, who left her family and returned to Shanghai after giving birth to him. Xie Ye saw a family photo album of retired professor Su Huaishu of Fudan University by chance, which had photos of Su Huaishu when she was a girl studying at the Southwest United University. The young man who took a photo with her was actually the most legendary man in the Xie family, whom he called "little Grandpa". Out of curiosity, Xie Ye tried to explore the little grandpa's past, and therefore met Su Huaishu's granddaughter An Yue. Together, the two young men embark on a journey that leads them to an unexpected place.
The novel spans the Southwest United University, the Jinghong Farm of the educated youth, and Shanghai before the millennium. The answer to Xie's single-minded inquiry into why his mother abandoned the family was crueler than he had expected.
About the author
Silent voice, writer, translator. Born in Yunnan Province in the 1980s, he moved to Shanghai. Writing science fiction debut, in recent years, the creation of more mixed reality and fantasy, has published novels "Moonlight flower", "next to the character", "Aunt's spring, summer, autumn and winter", "Aunt's Spring, summer, autumn and winter" won the Shanghai Writers Association 2015 outstanding novel. He has also translated many Japanese novels and non-fiction works such as "Modern Times", "Tada Convenience House in front of Real poro Station", "The Legend of the Red Leaf Family", "Kyoto Life" and "Freezing Point", and has written Japanese literature and culture-related articles for a long time, and hosted the "Moyin Eat wine to Go" public account. "A Horse" is a novel that she wrote in eight years.
