Content introduction

Renowned longevity expert Dr. Peter Attiya is also a marathon swimmer who once swam the Catalina Strait in his thirties. But his health had turned out to be abnormal, putting him at risk of an early death from heart disease. This discovery led him to explore longevity: how and why we die, and how we can delay or even prevent the chronic diseases that kill most people, such as heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes.

In this subversive manifesto aimed at promoting a long and good life, Attiyah explains how this journey has led him to rethink his approach to healthcare. While mainstream medicine has made many achievements, little progress has been made in combating these age-related diseases. It often intervenes too late to provide timely help and extends life at the expense of years of health or quality of life. Attiyah argues that we must replace this outdated framework with a personalized, proactive longevity strategy - one in which we should act now rather than wait. This is not "biohacking," it's a strategic, science-based approach to improving our physical, cognitive, and emotional health while extending our lives. Attiya's goal is less to tell you what to do and more to help you learn how to think about long-term health in order to make the best plan for you personally. In this book, readers will find:

Why your blood tests and cholesterol tests come back "normal" at your annual physical, but you may still be unhealthy - because average is not the same as optimal.

Why is exercise the most powerful medicine for longevity, and how do you start training for the Centenarian Decathlon?

Why should you forget about "dieting" and instead focus on nutritional biochemistry, using technology and data to personalize your eating patterns?

Why is the pursuit of physical health and longevity to the neglect of emotional health likely to be the ultimate disaster?

Longevity and health are far more malleable than we think. Our destiny is not set in stone, and with the right road map, you can chart a different path for your life that allows you to outlive your genes and make each decade better than the one before.
