From the denial of scientific facts about smoking, vaccines, evolution, and climate change, to the psychological roots of cognitive bias, from the information silos shaped by social media, to the philosophical views of postmodernism, this book traces the roots of the post-truth phenomenon and reveals the nature of post-truth: It is an assertion of the primacy of belief, and the danger is that the maker forces others to accept opinions and ignores evidence, putting people at risk of being divorced from reality. So the truth matters, as always. When someone tries to deceive others, we can still decide how to respond, and it's up to us to see the truth in time.

Lee C.McIntyre is a fellow at the Center for Philosophy and the History of Science at Boston University and a lecturer in ethics at the Harvard Extension School.
