1938年出生于美国马萨诸塞州。哈佛大学历史学及东洋语言学博士。长期从事日本近现代史研究。1997-2001年，曾行日本一桥大学大学院社会学研究科教授，现为纽约州立大学教授。

Emperor Hirohito reigned for 63 years from 1926 until his death in 1989. Because of the tight blockade by the Japanese imperial family and government, little is known about his life, especially his connection to the war of aggression waged in his name. After Hirohito's death, the world's attention to him did not diminish, but increased. The focus of attention is on Hirohito's relationship with the war of aggression waged by Japan. As the Showa era came to an end, diaries and memoirs of some of Hirohito's staff began to be published. In addition, the National Archives of the United States also released a lot of confidential information about the Pacific War and Hirohito's personal information. Finally, Hirohito, who had hidden behind the Iron Curtain for more than half a century, was brought to the fore. Truth: Emperor Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan focuses on the character, behavior, and thinking of Japan's unusual political leader in order to better understand Japanese society and politics in the 20th century. Herbert P.Bix
Born in 1938 in Massachusetts, USA. Ph.D. in history and Oriental Linguistics from Harvard University. He has long been engaged in research on modern and contemporary Japanese history. From 1997 to 2001, he was a professor of sociology at Hitotsubashi University, Japan, and is now a professor at the State University of New York.
