作者简介
里卡多·皮格利亚（1941—2017），阿根廷当代著名作家、文学评论家，当代西语文坛最有影响的作家之一。著有五部长篇小说《人工呼吸》（1980）、《缺席的城市》（1992）、《烈焰焚币》（1997）、《夜间目标》（2010）和《艾达之路》（2013），还创作了大量散文、短篇小说、文学评论和剧本。曾获西班牙文学评论奖（2010）、罗慕洛·加列戈斯国际小说奖（2011）、阿根廷作家协会最高荣誉奖（2012）和西班牙福门托文学奖（2015）等重要奖项。
2013年，皮格利亚被诊断罹患“渐冻症”，于2017年1月6日在布宜诺斯艾利斯去世。

"Burning Money" uses a kaleidoscope of fictional historical events to create a story of shocking violence. The story spans the cities of Buenos Aires and Montevideo. The gangsters Brinine and Dorda, known as the "twins," join a criminal gang and conspire with corrupt police and politicians to rob a bank armored car. They fled to the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, where they were rounded up in an apartment by Argentine and Uruguayan police. The murderous robbers killed several more police officers during the standoff and defiantly burned the rest of the money. The police of the two countries began the ultimate encirclement. The brutal siege and its shocking end became a Latin American legend.
In 2000, Argentine director Marcelo Pinheiro adapted "Burning Coins" into a film of the same name, which won the Spanish Goya Award for best Spanish-language foreign film.
About the author
Ricardo Piglia (1941-2017) was an Argentinian writer, literary critic, and one of the most influential writers in contemporary Spanish literature. He is the author of five novels, Mouth-to-Mouth (1980), Absent City (1992), Burning Money (1997), Night Target (2010), and IDA's Way (2013), and has written numerous essays, short stories, literary criticism, and screenplays. He has received important awards such as the Spanish Literary Criticism Prize (2010), the Romulo Gallegos International Fiction Prize (2011), the Highest Honor of the Argentine Writers Association (2012) and the Spanish Formento Literary Prize (2015).
Piglia was diagnosed with ALS in 2013 and died in Buenos Aires on January 6, 2017.
