彼得·N.斯特恩斯（PeterN.Stearns），世界史顶尖学者，美国乔治梅森大学历史系教授、教务长，曾任教于哈佛大学、芝加哥大学、罗格斯大学和卡内基梅隆大学等。他创办并主编了《社会历史杂志》，曾担任AP世界史委员会的创始主席和美国历史协会教学副主席。撰写、编辑了130余种图书，包括《欧洲社会历史百科全书》《世界历史百科全书》《情感与社会变革》《1848年：欧洲革命浪潮》《世界历史上的西方文明》等。

About the author:
PeterN.Stearns is a leading scholar of world history, professor and provost of the Department of History at George Mason University, and has taught at Harvard University, the University of Chicago, Rutgers University and Carnegie Mellon University. He founded and edited the Journal of Social History and served as the founding chairman of the AP World History Committee and Vice President for Teaching at the American Historical Association. He has written and edited more than 130 books, including Encyclopedia of European Social History, Encyclopedia of World History, Emotion and Social Change, 1848: The Wave of Revolutions in Europe, and Western Civilization in World History.
