　　五代时期武人有着怎样的社会地位？为何会出现忠而复叛的现象？是否真的像宋太祖所说的武人是社会动乱的乱源？五代是否真的“重武轻文”？宋初是否真的“重文抑武”？……揭秘藏在墓志碑文里的五代武人的宦海浮沉。

　　本书通过解读五代武人的墓志和碑铭，为五代阶层流动、文武交流研究提供新材料。书中从文人如何书写武人、武人之文事与武功、武人之后代和转型三个方面，分析解读五代武人的家庭结构、仕宦经历、上升通道、观念信仰等，探讨并重新评估了武人在五代至宋初的历史角色和地位。另外，作者还提出了一系列颇富启发性的议题，如：认为武人对“致治”有一定的贡献，而不只是宋太祖所说的“致乱”；武人品德和信仰是否符合儒家的严苛标准；等等。可以说，本书是从五代之“武”追溯宋代士大夫官僚制度的源流，并透过石碑和石刻这类“文”的表现加以阐释的划时代成就。

What was the social status of martial arts in the Five Dynasties? Why do loyalties and defections occur? Is it really like the Song Taizu said that the martial arts are the source of social unrest? Through the interpretation of the epitaph and inscriptions of the five dynasties, this book provides new materials for the study of class mobility and civil-military exchange in the five dynasties. The book analyzes and interprets the family structure, official experience, ascending channels, ideas and beliefs of Wuren in the five dynasties from the three aspects of how literati write Wuren, Wuren's literature and martial arts skills, and Wuren's subsequent generations and transformation, and discusses and re-evaluates the historical role and status of Wuren from the Five Dynasties to the early Song Dynasty. In addition, the author also put forward a series of enlightening issues, such as: that the martial arts have a certain contribution to the "governance", not just the "chaos" said by Song Taizu; Whether the character and beliefs of the martial arts meet the strict standards of Confucianism; Let's wait. It can be said that this book traces the origin of the bureaucratic system of scholar-officials in the Song Dynasty from the "Wu" of the five dynasties, and explains the epoch-making achievements through the expression of "literature" such as stone tablets and stone carvings.
