中国乡村居民易受关节炎、椎间盘疾病的困扰，且高血压、糖尿病等慢性病的患病率正在快速上升，接近城市。本书结合既有的统计数据，系统梳理了中国乡村疾病谱近百年的变迁规律，提出慢性病的社会类型学，进而以一个村寨的民族志为基础，从疾病的解释框架、求医问药的实践和日常的道德生活三个面向展现了乡村慢性病人的患病经历。
本书认为，只有厘清社会制度、生计模式、文化心态、身体习性和慢性病之间的复杂关系，保持对中国乡村疾病谱转变及其内在逻辑的清醒认识，对慢性病人的生活世界进行深入考察，才有可能将慢性病（人）纳入社会文化整体脉络中加以探讨。也只有这样，我们才会在农村健康促进政策的制定和实施上审慎进行，防止陷入或全盘肯定，或彻底否定，或简单照搬的单向思维。

余成普
中山大学人类学系教授，博士生导师。中山大学社会学与人类学学院院长。研究方向为医学人类学。曾在《中国社会科学》《社会学研究》《民族研究》、BMC Public Health、BMJ Open等国内外重要期刊发表论文三十余篇。出版两本专著：《生命的礼物：血液捐赠的理论与实践》和《生命的延续：器官移植的全球语境与地方实践》。
Content introduction
Rural Chinese are vulnerable to arthritis and disc disease, and the prevalence of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes is rising fast, approaching that of cities. Based on the existing statistical data, this book systematically combs the changes of the spectrum of rural diseases in China in the past hundred years, proposes the social typology of chronic diseases, and then presents the experience of rural chronic patients from three aspects, namely, the explanation framework of diseases, the practice of seeking medical treatment and the daily moral life, based on the ethnography of a village.
This book argues that only by clarifying the complex relationship between social system, livelihood mode, cultural mentality, physical habits and chronic diseases, maintaining a clear understanding of the changes in the spectrum of diseases in rural China and their internal logic, and conducting an in-depth investigation of the living world of chronic patients, can it be possible to integrate chronic diseases (people) into the overall context of social culture. Only in this way can we proceed cautiously in the formulation and implementation of rural health promotion policies, and prevent ourselves from falling into a one-way thinking that is either wholly positive, completely negative, or simply copied.

Yu Chengpu
Professor, Department of Anthropology, Sun Yat-sen University. Dean, School of Sociology and Anthropology, Sun Yat-sen University. His research direction is medical anthropology. He has published more than 30 papers in Chinese Social Sciences, Sociological Research, Ethnic Studies, BMC Public Health, BMJ Open and other important journals at home and abroad. He has published two books: The Gift of Life: The Theory and Practice of Blood Donation and The Continuation of Life: The Global Context and Local Practice of Organ Transplantation.
