Judith N.Shklar（1928—1992）
美国政治理论家，哈佛大学政治学教授，历任美国政治学与法哲学协会主席、美国政治科学协会主席等，并入选美国艺术与科学学院。对法国和美国政治思想传统有精深研究，对约翰•罗尔斯、理查德•罗蒂等人产生过重要影响。
代表作品有：《平常的恶》《不正义的多重面孔》《美国公民身份：寻求接纳》《政治思想与政治思想家》等。

Content introduction
"After Utopia: The Decline of Political Faith" is Schklay's first published work and is based on her doctoral thesis with extensive revisions. This book belongs to the study of the history of ideas. Schklay wrote this book in the aftermath of World War II, at a time when the West was despondent about history since the Enlightenment, and especially about history since the two world wars. The basic point of the book is that the grand, optimistic political theory of the Enlightenment has failed, and that it is no longer possible to present this type of political theory. In fact, not only did the mainstream of Enlightenment fail, but the critics of Enlightenment, mainly the Romantics, were also in a state of great depression, unable to respond to the problems of the time. This book provides a very insightful diagnosis of important modern trends such as Enlightenment thought and Romanticism, and lays the foundation for Schklay's basic understanding of the history of modern Western political thought.

American political theorist, professor of Political Science at Harvard University, president of the American Political Science and Philosophy Association, president of the American Political Science Association, and elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has studied the political traditions of France and the United States and has had an important influence on John Rawls, Richard Rorty and others.
