屡获殊荣的加利西亚作家、诗人、编剧和记者。
出生于西班牙加利西亚自治区科拉鲁尼亚省,以加利西亚语为创作语言,被视为加利西亚现代文学史上具有革命性的作家。
十五岁开始写作生涯,至今已出版了十九部长篇及短篇小说集、十部诗集、一部剧作等,其中二〇〇一年出版的《木匠的铅笔》是加利西亚文学史上被翻译得最多的作品,还被改编为电影。
曾获得西班牙文学批评奖、西班牙国家叙事文学奖、加利西亚文学评论家奖等,二〇〇九年当选为加利西亚皇家学院的院士。

A collection of short stories by Galician writer Manuel Rivas: a travelling salesman anxiously waits for his runaway son to return home and receives the magical help of a rock musician; The mysterious light of Vermeer's "Milkwoman" sends a writer back to his mother's arms; A young man who is killed in a botched robbery tells his love story; A friendship between an elementary school student and a teacher born out of a shared curiosity about animal life is destroyed in the summer of 1936. With a poetic and perceptive touch, Manuel Rivas blends folk tales, fantasy and human psychology to weave 16 stories about love.

Manuel Rivas
(1957 -)
Award-winning Galician writer, poet, screenwriter and journalist.
Born in the province of Coraluna in Galicia, Spain, he wrote in Galician and is regarded as a revolutionary writer in the history of modern Galician literature.
He began his writing career at the age of fifteen, and has published nineteen collections of novels and short stories, ten collections of poetry, and one play, among which the Carpenter's Pencil, published in 2001, is the most translated work in the history of Galician literature and has been adapted into a film.
He has won the Spanish Prize for Literary Criticism, the Spanish National Prize for Narrative Literature, the Galician Prize for Literary Critics, and was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Galicia in 2009.
