　　布鲁诺•拉图尔，法国当代著名科学哲学家、人类学家和社会学家，行动者网络理论创立者之一，科学技术论（Science and Technology Studies）学界的重要代表人物。他先后任教于巴黎高等矿业学校、巴黎政治学院。主要著作有《实验室生活：科学事实的建构过程》（1979，与伍尔加合著）、《细菌：战争与和平》（1984）、《科学在行动：怎样在社会中跟随科学家和工程师》（1987）、《我们从未现代过：对称性人类学论集》（1991）、《阿哈米斯或对技术的爱》（1992）、《潘多拉的希望：科学论中的实在》（1999）、《自然的政治：如何把科学带入民主》（1999）、《重组社会：行动者网络理论导论》（2005）、《实存模式探究：现代人的人类学》（2013）等。

Content introduction

This book is the result of Bruno Latour's many years of deep research in the philosophy of science and is the most philosophical work since his Science in Action. After an academic conference, a scientist friend bluntly asked, "Do you believe in reality?" Latour provides a thoughtful response and the most comprehensive and concrete account of his scientific position, providing an excellent argument for a practical understanding of scientific reality and the kind of realism that scientific theory seeks.

Through a series of case studies, Latour shows scientists in action in different fields: From the field research of soil scientists in the Amazon region, to the study of nuclear reactions by French atomic scientists at the outbreak of World War II, to Louis Pasteur's research on lactic acid fermentation in yeast, we have revealed countless steps in which various events in the material world are transformed into scientific knowledge. He also selected many examples of the technological world, which let us witness how the material world and the human world converge and transform each other in the technological process.

About the author

Bruno Latour is a famous contemporary French philosopher of Science, anthropologist and sociologist, one of the founders of the actor network theory, and an important representative of the academic circle of Science and Technology Studies. He taught at the Ecole des Mines and Sciences Po in Paris. He is the author of Laboratory Life: The Making of Scientific Fact (1979, co-authored with Woolgar), Germs: War and Peace (1984), Science in Action: How to Follow Scientists and Engineers in Society (1987), and We Have Never Been Modern.
