译者：吕黎，比较文学博士，北京师范大学文学院副教授，文艺学研究中心专职研究员。2007年从美国马萨诸塞大学博士毕业后回国，在北京师范大学任教至今，主要从事翻译理论、法国理论、西方马克思主义文论等方面的教学、研究工作。

The book is adapted from the author's popular literary theory course at Yale University. In this book, the author takes the reader on a tour of the mainstream of 20th century literary theory. At the heart of this discussion are a series of fundamental questions: what is literature, how it is produced, how literature should be understood, and what is the purpose of literature.
Fry addresses important themes and trends in 20th-century literary theory, including hermeneutics, formalism, semiotics and structuralism, deconstruction, psychoanalytic methods, Marxist and historicist methods, social identity theory, neo-pragmatism, and theory, and concludes with his own unique perspective. By connecting these currents through philosophical and social perspectives, the author provides the reader with an overall coherent context that helps the reader to read the literature deeply.
Paul H. Fry is the William Lampson Chair Professor of English and American Literature at Yale University and an expert in English romantic poetry. He is the author of "Wordsworth and the Poetry of What We Are" and "A Defense of Poetry: A Meditation on the Need to Write." Reflections on the Occasion of Writing) and so on.
Translator: Lv Li, PhD in Comparative Literature, Associate professor of College of Literature, Beijing Normal University, full-time researcher of Literature and Art Research Center. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 2007, he returned to China and has been teaching at Beijing Normal University since then, mainly engaged in the teaching and research of translation theory, French theory and Western Marxist literary theory.
