Content introduction
The urban imagination in contemporary Chinese science fiction is an important specimen of the imagination of Chinese society about the future after the reform and opening up. The academic examination and evaluation of this specimen constitutes a necessary condition for the formation and transformation of this imagination. Based on seven parts: the division of urban space, the reconstruction of time, the conception of urban infrastructure, the elaboration of the concept of work/play, the evolution of urban-rural relations, the transformation of the concept of "civilization", and the exploration of the imaginary path of the future, the book develops this investigation and assessment step by step.
The research of this book covers many fields such as modern and contemporary Chinese literature, science fiction studies, urban studies and cultural studies. As the first monograph to focus on the relationship between the city and imagination in contemporary China, it focuses on the analysis of contemporary Chinese science fiction, connecting and comparing the image of "city" in it, revealing the implicit meaning of "future" in it.
