保罗·吉尔罗伊（Paul Gilroy，1956—），英国著名黑人理论家、英国国家学术院院士，国际人文社科领域重量级奖项霍尔贝格奖获得者。吉尔罗伊1986年在伯明翰大学当代文化研究中心（CCCS）取得博士学位，是斯图亚特·霍尔的得意门生，也被认为是霍尔之后最重要的种族理论家之一。曾任耶鲁大学非裔美国人研究系系主任，现为伦敦大学学院教授、种族与种族主义研究中心主任。著有《大英帝国没有黑人》《阵营之间》《帝国之后》等。

It confronts a single racial discourse from multiple perspectives and challenges the black-and-white narrative of modernity
The Black Atlantic is a classic work by Paul Gilroy, an internationally renowned race theorist, and a landmark work that reshaped the field of black cultural studies. Using and developing the concept of "black Atlantic" as a historical field, an analytical unit and a theoretical perspective, the author traces the migration process of black people among Africa, America and Europe, deeply analyzes the impact of black diaspora on black culture itself and Western modernity, and moves black people from the edge of modern discourse to the center.
In Gilroy's view, blacks were not powerless victims, either in slavery or post-slavery, but had their own agency and complete intellectual and cultural history. The discrete journey in the Atlantic has endowed black culture with characteristics different from its source. It does not completely belong to Africa or the West, but also integrates Africa and the West. In this kind of duality and duality, black people have become the unique builders of Western modernity, and their economic, political and cultural practices are also an important part of modern history and civilization.

Paul Gilroy (1956 -), a famous British black theorist, academician of the British National Academy, winner of the Holberg Prize, an international heavyweight award in the field of humanities and social sciences. Gilroy, who received his PhD from the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies (CCCS) at the University of Birmingham in 1986, was a protege of Stuart Hall and is considered one of the most important race theorists since Hall. A former chair of the Department of African American Studies at Yale University, he is now a professor and director of the Centre for the Study of Race and Racism at University College London. He is the author of "No Blacks in the British Empire", "Between the Camps" and "After the Empire".
Shen Ruoran is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chinese Literature at East China Normal University and a Doctor of Literature at Fudan University. She is mainly engaged in the study of Western literary theory.
