Ray Bradbury, a master of fantasy literature, looks back on his six decades of writing and selects 100 of his favorite short stories. These short stories, which have been published in well-known magazines such as The New Yorker, Playboy and Vogue, sketch a colorful fantasy world with bizarre imagination and amazing narrative skills.
Science fiction master Ray Bradbury is one of the most important American writers of the twentieth century. Born in Illinois in 1920, he began to write full-time in 1943, and his representative works include the novel Fahrenheit 451 and the short story collection The Martian Chronicles. In addition to his novels, he has written numerous poems, plays, and television and film scripts.
Bradbury's works cover a variety of genres such as science fiction, fantasy and horror, and for his outstanding contributions to genre literature, he has won the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Gandalf Master Award, the Bram Stoker Lifetime Achievement Award, and the SFWA Master Award.
Bradbury's beautifully written, poetic and philosophical works have made a huge impact in the mainstream literary world, and he is regarded as "the most important figure in bringing modern science fiction into the mainstream". In 2004, President George W. Bush awarded Bradbury the National Medal of Arts. In 2007, he received the Pulitzer Prize for Special Recognition and the French Order of Arts and Letters for his work as a novelist.
On June 5, 2012, Ray Bradbury died in Los Angeles at the age of 91. In his eulogy, then-President Barack Obama praised "his storytelling genius for reshaping our culture and expanding our world."
