本书所选编的作品是作者经过实地旅行、勘察乃至长期生活之后,对“域外”的观感与沉思。
全书分为三辑,“欧洲”一辑展现了改革开放后首批访欧者看见的欧洲,而随着时间的迫近,作家笔下的“欧洲”也由最初的震撼逐渐成为与我们生活无异的日常。“美国”一辑主要侧重对具体的生活事项进行了描述。“亚非”一辑则多为近年作品,再次审视这人类文明的摇篮,在当代社会中生活中所扮演的角色和产生的影响。
陈平原,北京大学中文系博士,现任北京大学博雅讲席教授(2008—2012年任北大中文系主任)、北京大学现代中国人文研究所所长、教育部“长江学者”特聘教授、中央文史研究馆馆员。主要研究领域有20世纪中国文学、现代中国教育及学术、中国小说史、中国散文史等。先后出版《中国小说叙事模式的转变》《千古文人侠客梦》《中国现代学术之建立:以章太炎、胡适之为中心》《触摸历史与进入五四》《作为学科的文学史》《左图右史与西学东渐:晚清画报研究》《大学何为》《现代中国的述学文体》等著作三十余种。
张丽华,1980年生,湖北黄石人,北京大学中文系副教授。2009年毕业于北京大学中文系,获文学博士学位。主要从事中国近现代文学与文化研究、现代小说文体研究、晚清民国文学翻译研究。著有《现代中国“短篇小说”的兴起:以文类形构为视角》(北京大学出版社,2011年)、《文体协商:翻译中的语言、文类与社会》(北京大学出版社,2023年)。

The works selected in this book are the author's perception and meditation on "outside" after field travel, investigation and even long-term life.
The book is divided into three volumes, the "Europe" series shows the Europe seen by the first group of visitors to Europe after the reform and opening up, and with the approaching of time, the "Europe" under the writer's pen has gradually become the same as our daily life from the initial shock. The series "America" mainly focuses on the description of specific life matters. The series "Asia and Africa" is composed of more recent works, and once again examines the role and influence of this cradle of human civilization in the life of contemporary society.
Chen Pingyuan, Ph.D., Department of Chinese Literature, Peking University, currently Chair Professor of Liberal Arts at Peking University (2008-2012 Director of the Department of Chinese Literature, Peking University), director of the Institute of Modern Chinese Humanities at Peking University, Special Professor of "Changjiang Scholar" of the Ministry of Education, and member of the Central Institute of Literature and History. His research interests include 20th century Chinese literature, modern Chinese education and scholarship, history of Chinese fiction, and history of Chinese prose. He has published more than 30 books, such as The Transformation of the Narrative Mode of Chinese Novels, The Dream of the literati through the Ages, The Establishment of modern Chinese Scholarship: Centered on Zhang Taiyan and Hu Shizhi, Touching History and entering the May Fourth Movement, the History of Literature as a Discipline, the History of the Left and the Right and the Eastern Spread of Western Learning: A Study of Pictorial Newspapers in the Late Qing Dynasty, What Is University, and the Style of Describing Learning in Modern China.
Zhang Lihua, born in 1980 in Huangshi, Hubei Province, is an associate professor of Chinese literature at Peking University. In 2009, he graduated from the Chinese Department of Peking University with a Doctor of Literature degree. He is mainly engaged in the study of modern Chinese literature and culture, the study of modern novel style, and the study of literary translation in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. He is the author of the Rise of the "Short Story" in Modern China: From the Perspective of Genre Form (Peking University Press, 2011) and Stylistic Negotiation: Language, Genre and Society in Translation (Peking University Press, 2023).
