This is a masterpiece that tells the history of Zeng Guofan's economic life and official struggle.
Zeng Guofan is a unique presence in Chinese traditional officialdom. His life can be described as both "clear" and "turbid", with "turbid" as the table and "clear" as the inside. Through observing his economic life, we can explore a little-known aspect of the last sage of this traditional society, his "sincerity" and "hypocrisy", and his attitude of both clear principles and practical wisdom in the face of money temptation, present all kinds of subtle and complicated "rules" in the late Qing Dynasty official circle.
