日本艺术家竹久梦二是20世纪初日本迅速变化的文化环境中的一个代表人物。

　　直井参与策划了第一个在日本以外举办的竹久梦二个展akehisa Yumeji:Artist of Romance and Nostalgia（2015），参与编写展览图录，并因此获得“竹久梦二研究学会奖”（2017年3月），以表彰其在英语世界梦二研究领域所做的贡献。

The Japanese artist Mengji Takehisa was a representative figure in the rapidly changing cultural environment of Japan in the early 20th century.

His artwork includes images of Dream-like beauties, pro-civilian and anti-war illustrations, a Tokyo disaster letter created after the Great Kanto Earthquake, and covers for books and records. Takeshisa also played a key role in the field of printmaking. As his work spread widely in the Japanese mass media, Takeshisa became a household name.

Munji's graphic work is ubiquitous, but conspicuously absent from the official art history discourse of modern Japan. He is a conflicted artist who challenges the definition of art history and occupies a very different space in the history of Japanese visual culture.

In this first complete study of Takeshisa in English, nominated for the 2022 John Whitney Hall Book Award for Japanese Studies by the American Society for Asian Studies, author Mako Naai explores Takeshisa as a whole within the "media landscape" of Japan in the early twentieth century. The book includes classic works of the artist's artistic creation career, citing a large number of Takehisa's writings, including diaries, poems, essays and reviews. Broaden our understanding of the dynamic interactions of various mediums and their audiences in Japan's vibrant visual cultural landscape at the beginning of the twentieth century.

【 Day 】 Nozomi Naoi

Associate Professor of Art History at Yale-National University of Singapore, PhD in Art History at Harvard University, Assistant director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His research interests include modern Japanese print media and visual culture, and the development of new media technologies in contemporary East Asia.

He was involved in the curation of akehisa Yumeji:Artist of Romance and Nostalgia (2015), the first two-piece exhibition of Takehisa held outside Japan, and in the compilation of the exhibition cataloguing, for which he was awarded the "Takehisa Yumeji Research Society Award" (March 2017). In recognition of his contributions to the field of Dream II research in the English-speaking world.

Yumeji Modern: Designing the Everyday in Twentieth-Century Japan is her first solo monograph.
