林纾的一部笔记体短文集，共230余则，大部分故事均为其亲闻目睹，涉及清代以来官场野史传闻、民间流风遗俗、文学掌故等等，语言简练，叙述生动，很能反映清末民初风气初开、新旧文化并立的时代特征。
钱钟书评价《畏庐琐记》：“多载狎亵事，窥见此老本性，诙谐可喜。”
林纾（1852—1924），字琴南，号畏庐，福建闽县（今福州市）人。清末民初文学家、翻译家，一生著述宏丰，有《畏庐文集》《畏庐诗存》《京华碧血录》《畏庐笔记》《畏庐琐记》《韩柳文研究法》等。译著200余种，包括莎士比亚、科南·道尔、雨果、巴尔扎克、狄更斯、易卜生、托尔斯泰等名家的著作。
Introduction of works
Lin Shu's short collection of notes, a total of more than 230, most of the stories are his own witness, involving the official history rumors since the Qing Dynasty, folk customs, literary anecdotes and so on, the language is concise, vivid narration, can reflect the late Qing Dynasty, the beginning of the Republic of the atmosphere, the new and old culture coexist characteristics of The Times.
Qian Zhongshu commented on "Wei Lu Zuo Ji" : "For many years, a glimpse of this old nature, witty and gratifying."
Lin Shu (1852-1924), styled Qin Nan, styled Weilu, was born in Min County, Fujian Province (today's Fuzhou City). In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, he was a writer and translator who wrote numerous works throughout his life, such as "Wei Lu Anthology", "Wei Lu Poetry Cun", "Jinghua Bi Xue Lu", "Wei Lu Notes", "Wei Lu Zuo Ji" and "Han Liu Wen Research Method". He has translated more than 200 titles, including works by Shakespeare, Conan Doyle, Hugo, Balzac, Dickens, Ibsen, Tolstoy and others.
